PRESS RELEASE: Urban Offsets Wins First Prize at Capital Connects
Greensboro Company wins $5000 cash prize

(Greensboro, NC) – The Greensboro Partnership Entrepreneur Connection is pleased to announce the winners of 2015 Capital Connects annual pitch competition and showcase.
1. First Place: Urban Offsets, Shawn Gagne
This Greensboro firm builds software that helps cities develop carbon offset projects from new and existing trees in neighborhoods close to university campuses. Urban Offsets leverages their partnership with Duke University’s Carbon Offset Initiative, which transforms that data into carbon offsets, and provides a platform to sell those carbon offsets to the 700 colleges and universities committed to runningclimate-neutral campuses across America.
2. Runner Up: Dynamic Mail Management, Justin Streuli
Dynamic Mail Management is a software solution for organizations to manage their centralized mailroom through the web. Using the DMM app on a smartphone, tablet or laptop, mailroom staff can deliver parcels and packages faster and more efficiently than any competing solution. With unique capabilities such as “Ondemand” Mailbox Assignment and “Bring Your Own Device” hardware. Dynamic Mail Management was formed by two UNCG employees Robert Walker and Justin Streuli.
3. People’s Choice Award: FilterEasy, Thad Tarkington
FilterEasy delivers air filters when it’s time to change them at a cost that’s less that’s less than retail. Capital Connects is the Greensboro Partnership Entrepreneur Connection’s signature event, educating investors and connecting them with entrepreneurs looking for funding. Through participation in the event, startup companies will connect with seasoned entrepreneurs, investors, innovators and service providers and broaden their opportunity for resources critical to fostering future growth in a business.
In recent years, companies who pitched at this event raised over $9.5M in funding from local investors.
